This is a ketogenic plan which simply means that we will gently transition your body from burning carbs (think kindling) to burning YOUR OWN FAT (think rocket fuel) for energy.

Benefits of a low carb diet, in general include clear thinking, less inflammation and pain, flatter stomach, weight loss, reduced hunger, blood sugar balance, lower risk for heart disease, and (the reason I first became interested) reduced risk for certain types of cancer.

I used to be a raw food vegan so I say this with the utmost love... I am working on a soy free option for you but for now... if you are vegetarian or vegan, please do not sign up, this isn't the program for you. 


CAN I EAT OUT?
You can absolutely enjoy a meal out. Nights out are a blast when you start looking great and feeling comfortable in your skin so heavens to mercy, I don't expect you to deny yourself those!

Many of our ladies find, however, that it's best to be experiencing success on the plan before adding in deliberate temptation. 

When you do go out, I'll help you drop the "start again Monday" story so you can simply take another step in the direction of your goals. 


OKAY SO WHAT IF I GET OFF PLAN? (gasp)
Congratulations for being human! Remember when I said above that this isn't a dogmatic approach? You, like the rest of us, likely will get off plan. The problem isn't in enjoying a night out or even a vacation off. The problem is letting that turn into six months of stuffing your face and then wallowing in shame and hopelessness. 

I am not the Grinch... I have no intention of cancelling Christmas or of you skipping the cruise you've been planning for a year. We have a plan in place for life happening and we'll be waiting for you, ready to guide you back regardless of whether you got stressed out at your in-laws and closet ate a box of cookies, if you drank too much wine at your cousin's wedding and jumped straight into the cake, or when your vacation ends and that cruise ship docks. I won't even ask you to repent!


WHAT ABOUT MY KIDS?
Mama taking care of herself and becoming healthy is a blessing to the whole family. It certainly won't hurt your family to make the switch from processed packaged foods to whole foods, though they will likely protest in the interim. I suggest that you get their support in YOU changing YOUR health and leave it at that. 

Other than seafood, which my son won't touch, I feed my kids every single recipe I provide for you, plus lots of the other things kids eat. I'd be lying if I said that they eat exactly like I do and it's truly not worth the fight. Once you get the hang of the plan, I'll teach you how to modify most any recipe, you'll have them eating a healthier version of their old favorites in no time.


AND MY HUSBAND?
I've been married 19 years, and if there's one thing I know for sure, it's that no one wants to be forced into change before they're ready (and in the case of husbands, they should think it's their idea)! We all know that actions speak louder than words, so my suggestion is that you do your thing and let him do his, and I promise, the LESS you nag, the more likely he is to join you when he watches your life transform

Most husbands worry about their wives mental health constantly anyway, and their greatest desire is for us to, sane, happy, and healthy - wouldn't you agree?

Do your thing and let him do his, and as your blood sugar, brain, and hormones stabilize, you'll watch your marriage transform right before your eyes! I get messages all the time from husbands thanking me for giving them their wife back. Even if they don't jump on board, they will be your biggest cheerleader when they see the strong, confident, healthy woman that they married start to re-emerge. 


DO I HAVE TO TAKE SUPPLEMENTS?
Most keto dieters are obsessed with macronutrients (carbs, fat, and protein) but actually it's micronutrients (vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and bioflavonoids) that they should be focusing on. 

If you're missing a micronutrient, you'll open the refrigerator endlessly and not even know exactly what you're looking for. Further, if your body is missing something it needs, it's going to resist releasing anything, which includes fat. 
 
I suggest four whole food supplements to ensure that we are filling in any potential nutritional gaps. Three of them are powered and mix in water (and taste amazing), the third is an omega (fish oil - ewwww I know, but it's important). I simply share with you what I'm taking and where I buy them (all available on Amazon), and the choice is yours if you'd like to add them in. 


DO I NEED TO JOIN A GYM?
Nope. Weight loss comes down to 90% diet and 10% exercise and it has to be the right type of enjoyable exercise so that you're sparing muscle and burning fat. This may come as surprising advice from someone with a college degree in Exercise Science, but one of the first things I will teach you is something you already inherently know: willpower and motivation are finite resources. 

Moving your body is important for overall mental and physical health but when you’re making a diet overhaul, do not waste any of that precious willpower resource trying to muster up the motivation to hit the gym. I'll teach you the exact types of enjoyable exercise that will support your health transformation down the road when the eating portion becomes second nature - no gym membership required! 


DO I HAVE TO EAT HEALTHY FOREVER?
This is actually the #1 question I get. The simple answer is no. There are no "have to's" in life. Everything is a choice and as soon as we lift the burden of all the shoulds, our life takes on a whole new tune. More about that in the program!

The bad news (that you already know) is... if you go back to eating the exact foods that led to you being overweight, you will again end up... overweight. I wish I had a checkout aisle magazine cover half truth to tell you about that, but that's just not the case and brutal honesty delivered with love is my specialty. 

The good news is.... You will make major long term metabolic changes by following the KetoLikeThis program which means that your body will much more quickly return to it's state of homeostasis (health) following a period of eating like crap! We call that metabolic healing. Wooohooo for that, RIGHT!?

The longer answer is... that you will learn so much about which foods heal and which harm your body that you are likely (and it's my wish for you) to choose to embrace a lower carb lifestyle overall because you simply feel better when you do. 

Again, this is not a dogmatic approach. Those of you that have a rebellious personality (like I do) will never last on a plan that involves any "thou shalls" and "thou shalt nots," even if they are self inflicted. 

Instead, I'll teach you the science behind why you feel so wonderful eating like this, you'll get in touch with how your body feels, we'll bring those issues around self-worth to light, and you'll start to believe that you deserve to feel amazing all the time. You'll be surprised how your mind shifts from a place of "have to" eat healthy to "want to" eat healthy. 

Life is beautiful and weddings, Christmas, birthdays, and such still happen. We have let food and body issues keep us from truly enjoying those events for far too long anyway, so for those days we have a backup plan and part of that plan is learning to treat ourselves and our transgressions with grace!

HOW IS THIS DIFFERENT THAN OTHER KETO PROGRAMS?
Ahhh, that's the magic of my approach. I've specifically optimized this program for fast weight loss even in perimenopause and full menopause. What works well for younger women doesn't usually work for women over 40. What works for women over 40 does, however, work well for younger women and that's the case with KetoLikeThis. 

A low carb, high-fat ketogenic diet as we know it today was originally designed as a very effective treatment for epilepsy in the 1920’s. The thing is that it was designed to be weight sparing, not weight reducing... Oye! I call this "Keto E" for epilepsy. 

There is nothing wrong with "Keto E" if you follow it using foods that would have been available in 1920. "Keto E," as it's taught today all over the interweb of recycled thought, however, is extremely inflammatory, full of allergens, and devoid of micronutrients. That's not remotely helpful when it comes to calming an inflammed brain or calming cortisol and detoxifying the fat cell. 

A well-designed, low allergen "Keto E" approach works well for epilepsy and other neurological issues like M.S. I can help you adapt KetoLikeThis if you need to for a specific health challenge.
